One of the most renowned residences in Luray VA is Calendine, the family home and property of the infamous Barbee family. The home, located on Hamburg Road in Luray, was constructed in 1840 for Townsend Young, a man who ran the general store and stagecoach mercantile in town. Later, it was the residence of the famed Luray sculptor William Randolph Barbee, who was once commissioned to create a piece for the west wing of the U.S. Capitol. However, the onset of the Civil War in Virginia temporarily derailed the project. Barbee's son, Herbert Barbee, also became a famous Luray sculptor after he traveled to Europe perfecting his craft. Carrying on his father's legacy, he created the Confederate Monument for Luray's East Main Street, which was unveiled with great fanfare during a town celebration in 1898.

Another famous house on Hamburg Road in Luray is the Mauk Meeting House. This Historic Houses In Virginia was built for religious purposes by the "Neighbors", who were Mennoites from European lands such as Switzerland and the southern region of Germany. These early settlers were some of the first to inhabit Luray VA and the meeting house served as a Baptist and Mennonite worship site for over a century. Also on Hamburg Road in Luray is the Hamburg Country Store. Visitors to the store are encouraged to take a step back in time and enjoy the early general store as it was in 1940's rural Page County. The original store was created in the early 1900's and served all of the needs of the early settlers in the area. Tours are given by appointment only, call 540-743-3915 for more information.

One of Luray's most prominent historic buildings remaining is the Massanutten School, located near the Lawn Park in Luray Va. The school was used from 1875-1937 and was moved from its original site in 1972 and restored to its original glory. The adorable one room school is filled with the sixteen original double desks, a one hundred year old cast iron stove, and the handmade teacher’s desk and chair. Also on the grounds of the Massanutten School is the flag pole that was used during the Civil War, the original 1880's school house bell, and numerous photos and exhibits offering a glimpse into the fascinating  Shenandoah Valley history.

Stevens Cottage is located in Shenandoah VA, a town nestled in the southernmost region of Page County Virginia. During the late 1800's, it housed the Shenandoah Land and Improvement Company's offices, a company that is largely responsible for the railroad boom the area experienced during this time. After changing hands a few times and serving as a printing office and then a private school, Stevens Cottage was purchased by two charming sisters, Mary and Edna Stevens, who used the building as a pirate residence and is now one of the popular Historic Houses In Virginia. After the two sisters died, the building was bought by a heritage organization and is today the adjacent offices for the Page County Chamber of Commerce during the summer and fall months.
