Thomas Jefferson National Forest
The Jefferson National Forest is located northwest of
Luray Virginia, bordering and converging with another pristine national forest in the area, the
George Washington National Forest. Created in 1936 as a separately managed area, the two forests were combined administratively in 1995. Together they encompass more than 1.8 million acres of lands throughout the Appalachian Mountains. Alone, the Jefferson National Forest encompasses more than
723,350 acres making it one of the largest National Forests in the country. Local ranger districts in the Jefferson National Forest include offices in Blacksburg, Marion, Natural Bridge, New Castle, and Wise. Just a short drive away from our
