Luray Caverns Virginia
It was just a bit of cold air that blew out Andrew
Campbell's candle as he walked by a limestone sinkhole
near a hill west of Luray Virginia. The year was 1878 and Campbell, his associates and his 13 year old nephew were exploring the area
in the morning hours, looking for a cave. After seeing the cold air blow out
his candle, the men dug away the rocks in the hole for more than 4 hours. After clearing the hole, Campbell and his men unmasked a natural wonder that even they could hardly believe. With a rope extended, Campbell made his way deep into the cave and discovered one of our nation's most beautiful natural attractions, Luray Caverns.
Today, visitors can tour the stunning natural formations of the Virginia Luray Caverns. Guided tours depart approximately every 10 to 20 minutes throughout the day. Each tour lasts about an hour in length. Stay in our Luray Caverns Cabins with Hot Tubs and get ready
to discover the largest and most popular caverns in the
eastern United States! A noted US Natural Landmark, the
Virginia Luray Caverns are renowned for their cathedral
sized 'rooms', some even with ceilings as high as 10
stories! When you tour the Virginia Luray Caverns, you
will see the gigantic stone columns that are still naturally forming and look out across the crystal clear pools of water. Also, you will be both haunted and delighted to hear the unique sounds that flow from the world's only Stalacpipe Organ which rises from the stalactite formations that cover more than 3 full acres!
In addition to visiting the Virginia Luray Caverns, you can see a unique slice of history at the
Car and Carriage Caravan Museum which features transportation exhibits with items dating back to 1725! Admission to the Luray Car and Carriage Museum is included with your admission to Luray Caverns, and
tours typically last about 30 minutes.
Our Luray Virginia Cabin Rentals are convenient to not only this famous Northern Virginia Tourist
Attraction, but also great places like the
Luray Zoo, the
Shenandoah River, the
Virginia Skyline Drive, and the pristine
Shenandoah National Forest. Stay in our cozy Virginia Mountain Cabins and enjoy unforgettable Virginia Getaway Vacations!

The Garden Maze at the Caverns
The wonderful and magical Garden Maze at Luray Caverns is just one additional part of the Luray Caverns Virginia attraction and a special feature that makes it such a wonderful place to visit. The Garden Maze is the largest garden maze in the Mid-Atlantic region of the eastern U.S., and it features a half-mile pathway with over 1,500 Dark American Arborvitae that grow over eight feet tall and four feet wide. The Garden Maze features a neat bridge, man-made cave with misting fog, and a large fountain at its center; all to help visitors figure out where they are in relation to the mazes pathways.
Both helpful and unhelpful signs dot the pathway and lead visitors
out of the maze or into more confusion. Solve the riddle at exactly forty points in the maze and you just might solve the maze! Or, if you are truly confused, use the raised platform to figure out exactly where you are in relation to the exit.
